BMC Moerdijk tests capture of CO₂

Poultry manure incineration plant BMC Moerdijk has entered into a partnership with Shell to capture CO₂. The collaboration should bring the innovative ‘Solid Sorbent Technology’ into practice.

This currently concerns a pilot project and may be scaled up to a demonstration project later this year. The technology developed by Shell to capture carbon dioxide (CO₂) from flue gases should lead to both a 25% reduction in capture costs and negligible emissions compared with existing liquid technologies.

BMC converts poultry manure into sustainable electricity. With this project, BMC wants to make a second contribution to the climate. ‘The capture, storage, and use of CO₂ is essential in the global effort to reduce climate change while providing more and cleaner energy’, answers Shell’s Rob Littel.
